Fire your doctor!
by Mira and Charles on October 5th, 2007OK, maybe you shouldn’t fire your doctor. The point is that an essential part of your feeling well and being well is your making sure that YOU are in charge of everything involving your health. That includes your deciding who your doctor is and everything else about your health. Why is this so important?
Flu season should be starting about now, and this year a lot more of us will be getting it. But when it comes to our health it’s always something, isn’t it?
A friend of mine just sprained her ankle — she has to be in a cast for a month. Another’s dealing with a bout of mysterious and confusing stomach pain.
Health is something we take for granted until we’re forced to realize how fragile our health is. But even though good health comes and goes, we ourselves are not fragile. The message of FEEL BETTER FAST is that no matter how sick or injured we are, we have tremendous strengths we can use to help ourselves feel better.
Check out the book. You’ll see how everything you do to empower yourself in the face of illness and injury will pay off big time.
You can start now, even if you’re in the pink. Do you have a good doctor that you like? If you’re uncomfortable with a person you last saw when there was something wrong with you, now’s the time to line up someone better. Ask around. Talk to friends and people you respect in your community. When you get a couple of names that sound promising, call their offices and ask their assistants questions like, “Does Dr. So-and-So typically spend time with her patients?”
If you get answers you like, make an appointment for a check up. Doing things like this not only give you resources when you need them. It helps you feel you’re in charge and that’s a big part of what we need to feel better fast.
