Depressed? You’re not alone!
by Mira and Charles on September 25th, 2009They say misery loves company. Well, in the case of depression, there’s a lot of company. If you happen to be depressed, the one thing you can’t be sad about is that no one understands how you feel. LOTS of people understand how you feel. According to the World Health Organization, depression will soon be the number one health burden on society. Now here’s why it’s important for us to understand this.
One of the insidious things about depression is that our instinctive responses to it tend to make things worse. Depression tends to drive us inward. We retreat from other people, from life itself. But those people can help. Suppose you walked into any room and said, “Hey, I’m depressed. Anyone else here know what I’m talking about,” and you’d know that other people in the room would say, “My friend, I know just how you feel.” That would help a lot.
And it’s true. Every room does contain people who really understand. So next time you feel blue, don’t hide. Share. Others will chime in. They might offer suggestions that will help. They might offer encouragement.
With that kind of encouragement you WILL feel better.
The truth is that there are many, many things you can do to feel better. You’re not alone, and you’re not helpless. One source of many suggestions is our book The Emotional Energy Factor. Every chapter in it contains custom tailored suggestions we developed by talking to people who are dealing with just what you’re dealing with. Check it out.
